Upcoming Chinese Video Games

Last year, I put together a list of dialogue-heavy video games that are either originally in Chinese or offer a Chinese language option.
Just last week, a new trailer dropped for an upcoming Chinese game called Blood Message (歸唐), and it's already making waves in gaming circles. What sets it apart is that it looks like a full-blown AAA third-person action-adventure title (think Uncharted or God of War), something we haven’t seen much of from the Chinese gaming industry so far. You can check out the Chinese-language trailer here:

Unfortunately, there’s still no release date yet, but the trailer got me curious about what’s happening in the Chinese gaming scene. It turns out that last year’s Black Myth: Wukong really gave the industry a boost, as now there are tons of incredible-looking Chinese games in the pipeline, many of which are expected to launch in 2025-2026.

Here are just two titles that seem to be getting close to release, but if you’re curious, the link above has a full list of 30 upcoming Chinese games worth keeping an eye on:

Where Winds Meet《燕云十六声》

  • Genre: Open-world Wuxia action RPG

  • Expected Release: Most likely in 2025, though a beta version was already released in December 2024

This game combines historical realism with high-freedom Wuxia gameplay set during the late Tang Dinasty (10th century China). It emphasizes martial arts movement, player choice, and sandbox-style interaction with the world.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers《明末:渊虚之羽》

  • Genre: Soulslike action RPG

  • Expected Release: 2025 July 24

This dark action RPG is set in a mythological version of the late Ming Dynasty, plagued by chaos and a mysterious feathered curse. With Bloodborne-style combat, grotesque creature design, and deep roots in Chinese mysticism and folklore, it offers a uniquely Chinese take on the soulslike genre.
