Fitness Vocabulary

With summer just around the corner, more and more people are heading to the gym—so I thought it’d be a great time to share some useful Chinese vocabulary you can use while working out.

This kind of everyday language doesn’t usually show up in textbooks, so if you enjoy exercising, I hope you’ll find this list helpful!

You can also listen to the audio and practice the words with interactive games on my Quizlet page.

And if you want to get fit while practicing your Mandarin at the same time, I recommend the Keep app. It’s super popular in China and has great workout videos for stuff like sit-ups, dumbbell moves, or spin bike sessions, all in clear Mandarin that’s great for tuning your ear. Just to be clear, I’m not affiliated with them, I just think it’s a good app for anyone into fitness.
