Chinese Stand-up Comedy

Stand-up comedy is still a pretty new thing in China. It only really started gaining popularity in the 2010s, thanks to shows like Rock and Roast (脱口秀大会). Since then, the scene has had its ups and downs — but as of 2025, it looks like stand-up is officially back!

New shows like The King of Stand-up Comedy (喜剧之王单口季) and Stand-up Comedy and Friends (脱口秀和Ta的朋友们) have brought a fresh wave of energy to the scene.

You can find many episodes of these shows on YouTube — though most of them only have Chinese subtitles. If you’re looking for English subtitles, the official Xiaoguo Comedy channel has quite a few episodes with English translations, so it's a great place to start.
