3 Body Problem - The Chinese TV series

Hi there! Let’s jump straight into my first newsletter, in which every week I share movie, TV series, book or music recommendations, cultural insights, and other helpful tips and resources to assist you along your Chinese learning journey.

One of this year’s most anticipated Netflix TV shows, '3 Body Problem,' is coming out on March 21st, and so far, the reviews suggest it might not be too bad at all. I’ll be talking about the show more once it’s out, but if you can’t wait, then this is the perfect time to check out the book that this show is based on: 'The Three-Body Problem' (三体), written by 刘慈欣 (Liu Cixin). It’s a Chinese sci-fi novel that came out in 2008 and is considered one of the greatest Chinese science fiction novels out there. It’s the first book in the trilogy, as two sequels have been released since: 'The Dark Forest’ 黑暗森林 and ‘Death’s End‘ 死神永生.

今年最受期待的网飞电视剧之一《三体》将于3月21日首播。电视剧播出后我会详细聊一聊这部剧。如果你已经迫不及待想要了解这部剧的故事，我推荐你看它的同名小说《三体》。这是一部于2008年出版的中国科幻小说，作者是刘慈欣。它也是中国最受欢迎的科幻小说之一。《三体》是作者同系列小说中的第一部，另外两个分别是：《黑暗森林》和《死神永生》。

The upcoming Netflix adaptation is actually not the first TV show created from this novel; a Chinese adaptation was released last year, and all 30 episodes are available for streaming on WeTV with English subtitles. The first 2 episodes are free to watch (no subscription needed), so it could provide a good chance for you to practice your Chinese while you're waiting for the Netflix show to drop. If the link below doesn’t work for you for some reason, the first two episodes have also been uploaded to YouTube.

即将播出的网飞版电视剧并非这部小说的首个电视剧版本。根据小说《三体》改编的同名电视剧去年在中国上映了。如果你对中文版的《三体》感兴趣可以在腾讯视频观看。因为有英文字幕所以你完全不用担心听不懂中文。除了通过下面的链接观看，在Youtube也可以找到中文版《三体》的前两集。
