A 2024 Japanese-Taiwanese Movie + Downloadable Movie Cards

This week, I managed to watch a new Japanese-Taiwanese movie in theaters, 18×2 Beyond Youthful Days. Don’t let the title scare you away; it's actually one of the better romantic dramas released recently. Your level of enjoyment will likely depend on how many of these kinds of Asian romantic movies you’ve seen before, as the plot of 18×2 is quite predictable. However, I still feel this is a movie worth your time, as the story is quite moving and beautifully shot, with scenes set in both Taiwan and Japan. The narrative spans two different timelines: 2000s Taiwan and 2020s Japan, where the Taiwanese protagonist searches for his lost love, last seen 18 years ago.

这周我看了电影《青春18 X 2 通往有你的旅程》，它是由日本和台湾合作拍摄的一部作品。通过名字你大概已经猜到了，这是一部浪漫的爱情片，虽然已经看过很多类似主题的亚洲电影，但丝毫没有影响我对它的喜爱。尤其是感人的故事加上唯美的电影镜头非常打动我。电影在日本和台湾都有取景，分两个故事线：2000年两个人在台湾的初相识和18年后男主在日本开始的寻找初恋之旅。

The characters speak both Japanese and Chinese in the movie, with Chinese likely taking up more than half of the screen time. For Chinese learners, it's particularly interesting that in the 2000s timeline, the Japanese protagonist is learning Chinese as she tries to fit in at her new job. She also becomes romantically involved with the Taiwanese protagonist. Chinese learners who have studied abroad might recognize some of the situations that she goes through during the movie. All in all, if you like romantic dramas, or you just want to practice your Chinese listening, then don’t skip this one!

电影中同时有日语和普通话，普通话大概占整部电影的一半多。2000年的这部分故事中你一定能找到共鸣，因为当时女主为了融入工作也在练习中文。由于这个日本女孩儿初来乍到加上中文不太好，所以男主角一直对她很照顾，就这样两人之间慢慢擦出了爱的火花。总之，不管你是想练习中文听力，还是单纯喜欢浪漫的爱情片，都不要错过它。
